905 Mixtape: Thinkin Bout You

22 04 2012

This has gotta be one of the most cliche ideas for a mixtape ever but for some reason I’m still doing it. Music means a lot of different things to different people but if you’re like me certain songs can evoke extremely vivid memories out of you when you least expect it. Such was the case when I listened to Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin About You” for probably the 10th time this weekend. It was like a trip down memory lane, remembering all the girls I’ve gotten over but still manage to worm their way into my mind. This isn’t a whiny “why didn’t you stay with me” mixtape. It’s nothing of the sort. It’s more about those people that stay with you days, weeks, months or years after you meet them. It’s about the ones who changed you for better or worse and made you into the person you are now. This mixtape is for the ones who got away and left you reeling. It’s for the heartbreak and the inevitable rebound. It’s for remembering the mistakes that you will never ever make again. But most of all, it’s for making the best of the things you can control and letting go of the things things that you can’t. I hope you enjoy it.

Daily Tune: Carousel – Where Have You Gone [Indie Pop]

It’s tracks like these that make me eager for Summer to finally get here. Thankfully, Carousel knew how much exams suck and released this song to ease the pain ever so slightly. Just from the pulsating bass at the beginning the track has me hooked. It’s upbeat yet it still manages to maintain a laidback vibe that would go perfectly with an ice cold beer on the beach. Also I’m sure we can all somehow relate to the lyrics:

I’ve been thinking about the time when we would stay up til the sunrise.

If I said I want it back would you meet me with the same eyes?

These days seem long, where have you gone?
